Raw Honey, just like you would find it in the hive!

Raw Honey

Raw honey is taken from the honeycomb, screened to remove foreign substances such as leaves, dead bugs, or small pieces of wood, and then bottled. Raw honey is un-headed, leaving all of the nutrients intact. Honey in its natural form contains many amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. Most importantly, unfiltered and unheated honey contains many antioxidants and natural pollen. The antioxidants help with everything from reducing inflammation, preventing heart disease, and lowering cholesterol. The natural pollen content aids in greatly reducing allergies, and is the mainstream benefit of honey.

Processed Honey

Did you know that 70% of the honey consumed in the U.S. is actually imported from other countries? Processed honey is headed to speed up the bottling process, yet it also removes many of the amazing health benefits of honey. Many of the antioxidants, enzymes, and antibacterial properties are destroyed in the heating and filtering process. Although the honey may lose most of the health benefits while being processed, there is a greater problem than that. Many store bought and imported honeys (regardless of the brand name) contained added sugar or corn syrup. This allows mass producers to "cut" the honey with another sweetener and therefore create more honey with a cheaper price. In one clean sweep a company can remove the health benefits from honey, and remove its natural sweetener properties, so make sure you go with a company that you can trust!
